Foregut Surgery

Acid Reflux & GERD

Long-term relief when medication isn't enough.

Chronic heartburn, regurgitation, and GERD that no longer respond to PPIs often have a mechanical root cause. Dr. Eduardo offers fellowship-level surgical solutions for refractory reflux — including hiatal hernia repair, fundoplication, and LINX magnetic sphincter augmentation.

Procedure 01

Nissen Fundoplication

Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication

The long-established surgical fix for chronic reflux.

The top of the stomach is wrapped around the lower esophagus to reinforce the anti-reflux valve. Performed laparoscopically with a short recovery.

Duration
1.5–2 hours
Recovery
Light activity in ~1–2 weeks

Procedure 02

LINX Device

Magnetic Sphincter Augmentation (LINX)

A ring of tiny magnets that restores the valve.

A small ring of magnetic beads is placed around the lower esophageal sphincter to stop reflux while still allowing normal swallowing. Minimally invasive with same-day or next-day discharge.

Duration
45–60 min
Recovery
Normal activity in days

Procedure 03

Hiatal Hernia Repair

Laparoscopic Hiatal Hernia Repair

Addresses the mechanical cause of many reflux cases.

A hiatal hernia allows the stomach to slide up into the chest, disrupting the reflux barrier. Laparoscopic repair restores normal anatomy and is often combined with fundoplication.

Duration
1.5–2.5 hours
Recovery
Light activity in ~1–2 weeks
